Manchester Museum
Introduction
Manchester Museum is located opposite the Earth and Planetary Science building of the University of Manchester, the museum itself is a part if the Univeristy and the wide array of collections are shared between the two. The museum is free to enter, and is open to the public Tuesdays to Sundays. The building can be difficult to navigate but it is well sign posted and theres always plenty of staff around to help. The museums very accessible, with lifts and ramps throughout the building as well as prayer and sensory rooms available to everyone.
Earth Science
The Earth Science department is located on the ground floor of the building and requires you to cross the bridge. Theres two rooms, with a variety of fossils on display most notably including a complete cast of Stan the T-Rex.
The main room takes you on a story through time, starting in the Cambrian through to the paleogene. The collections are fairly extensive with a wide range, theres many different fossils, primarily from various parts of the UK. Stan the T-Rex is the main feature in this room along with large Stigmaria rooting system from the Carboniferous of Bradford.
Other Departments
Other notable departments of Manchester Museum include the Egyptian section and East Asian gallery. I particularly like the East Asian Section which is focused on real people and real cutlural experiences. The creation of the gallery involved local members of the community, paying them a living wage whilst they worked on the project, it was these people who chose which artifacts would be displayed, how they would be displayed and the information that goes along side them.
London Natural History Museum - Patigoniatitan 2023
Introduction
The Natural History Museum in London my favourite Uk museum, unfortunately Its difficult and expensive for me to get there so when I do get to visit its amazing to see the new exhbiitons. Unfortunately, this trip was cut short but the exhibit was still amazing.
Special Exhibition
This exhibits main feature is the Patagotitan mayorum from Argentina and is one of the largest dinosaurs ever. The primary feature was the fully articulated reconstruction, that stood tall in the cnetre of the exhibit. The exhibit also featured origional bones such as the large femur and various other bones, teeth and eggs. The exhibit was well laid out, with lots of information on the discovery and story of the excavations. The information was highly scientifically informed and accessable to the public.
A personal benefit and enjoyed feature of the exhibit was the ambient lighting used throughout.
